The Kauna Klan Knewsletter
A newsletter of the Reverend Emmanuel Kauna family’s journey in God’s mission.
Dear Family & Friends,
Christian greetings.
Wow!
We have just completed our Semester 1 (14 weeks), we are all settled in with additional tenants with us, i.e., we now have our two grandchildren (Mechelle Luisa & Emmanuel Jr) come over to accompany us here at Rarongo School of Theology and Mission (STM), East New Britain Province.
Besides updating on family, we will also inform you of happenings, landmarks and projects proposed to be undertaken by the new management of Rarongo STM.
Family Update
Mechelle Luisa (M1) and Emmanuel Jr (M2) decided that they wanted to join us in Rabaul, that is, to keep moving in ministry.
M1 & M2 have been with us since we embarked in ministry with the United Church back in 2017 at Madang and followed through at Goroka. They have settled in well, eating well, and now have found their ideal location to pass the time, the beach.
M1 has been enrolled at Vunaimira Primary School in Elementary Prep while M2 has decided to do home schooling forgoing the Phonics School at the nearby community.
Friendships have already been forged so all is well.
Both Emmanuel and Kila have settled in well with the routine activities and ministries of the college besides EK’s role in teaching.
Rarongo STM
Semester 1 is done and dusted.
It is now time for finalising grades and reports such as ‘Life and Witness’ of students, individual academic performances and other requirements associated with Academic standards. While this is a learning experience for EK, he is adjusting well as a result of support and prayers.
Chapel needs renovation, Structures need repainting and roofing needs changing.
The new management, under the leadership of Reverend Abel Uraboro as the Principal and his two deputies Reverend Kilaapae Walo (V/P Academic & Dean of Studies) and Reverend John Sailasa (V/P Administration), hope to see the current Chapel renovated.
The structures need repainting and the roofing definitely needs changing.
Added to that Dormitory or Dorm 4 is definitely and urgently in need to be replaced. It is one of the oldest building and soon (if rain persists) it will not be fit for human dwelling.
The roofing irons are very very old (the colors are rusted in nature), the ceilings are falling apart due to leaking of rain water through the roof.
It was mentioned that a group (known within UC) offered to ‘do something’ about the whole Dorm 4, but to date nothing has been forthcoming.
Our appeal for Rarongo STM's highly essential needs.
We (EK & Kila) are making this appeal through the KK Knewsletter for any good Samaritans to offer their services to replace this aging Dorm 4. As Dorm 4 Patron we feel for the students and are distressed by the condition of the housing.
‘Blackouts’ are becoming regular (sometimes up to a week) and this affects the water pump from flowing into the college houses, hindering the work conducted by staff and by students.
We need a new big water pump that can cater for the community and a fix on the current Genset that has been sitting idle since January 2023.
These are two highly essential needs of the college.
Teaching Responsibilities for EK in Semester 2
Bachelor of Chaplaincy Year 2: Issues Teenagers Face
Diploma in Theology 3: Pauline Epistles
Certificate in Theology: Biblical Counselling
These are all new subjects for me and so prayers are coveted in lesson preparations. Kila continues to play the role as an encourager and/or helper and friend amongst the women folks.
Her smiles are contagious and draws friendship all round from the women folks.
She has a friend from the nearby community – praise the Lord!
Housing
We are now into the sixth month and we are yet to move into our staff allocated house as we continue to reside at the Guest House.
Does this mean we are visiting Lecturers? Haahaaha.
Power is needed to be restored to our house as well as new fittings for the toilet septic.
As of the publication of this newsletter, there is still much to be done. For example, flooring for the lounge and rooms and even doors for the toilet and shower which are a must.
PRAYER KONA
Praise...
Thank the Lord for the completion of Semester 1 program.
Thank the Lord for opportunities for ministry besides teaching roles.
For a friendly and conducive environment for ministry
Prayer...
EK for preparations for Semester 2 teaching load. This will include Supervisory/Mentoring role for Diploma Yr. 3 and Bachelor of Divinity Yr. 2 thesis writing. We are looking at over 20 students to be shared between 10 teaching faculty’s.
Maintaining personal spirituality.
Good health, strength and wisdom in ministry.
Kila to be used for the Lord in reaching out to student wives, Youth ministry and Sunday School children.
Matter worth praying for:
Currently, Rarongo School of Theology and Mission is without a staff with a PhD level to help oversee its Masters in Theology program. Due to this shortfall, Rarongo School of Theology and Mission has not enrolled any Masters students for this year and it could be the same next year.
It has been on our hearts and prayers to pursue a PhD or DMin or equivalent with the desire to help the church in its theological program.
We are very grateful, though, for what the Lord through CLTC and its donor partners have contributed into our lives in theological education, something we treasure in our hearts.
We are willing to go the distance should opportunities arise.
Should you feel in your heart to support us financially, our ministry account is: Emmanuel & Kila Kauna Bank South Pacific a/c # 7009917068.
Your support and prayers are appreciated and valued.
Thank you sincerely & God bless! Emmanuel and Kila Kauna Rarongo STM, ENBP
